Review: Her Dying Day - Mindy Carlson - June 2022 The mystery surrounding Her Dying Day by Mindy Carlson captivated me from start to finish, not only because of the eerie disappearance at the heart of the plot but also because it evoked memories of the infamous real-life vanishing of Agatha Christie.   Aspiring filmmaker June Masterson is on a quest to document the mystery of Greer Larkin, a renowned mystery author who disappeared under strange circumstances. Growing up on a remote commune, June first heard about the case at fourteen, and now, years later, she’s determined to uncover the truth behind Greer’s disappearance. This book is a must-read for fans of unsolved cases, as it explores every possible theory about what happened to Greer. Was it her controlling fiancé, Jonathan? Did Greer take her own life due to writer's block, as her agent suggests? Or was it one of the women closest to her—her possessive mother, Blanche, or her obsessive best friend, Rachel? The twist...

Review: Looking for Eden - Caroline Overington

Review: Looking for Eden - Caroline Overington - June 2024 Scrolling on my Libby Library App, I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for and saw this particular book was expiring soon and I knew I had read quite a few of Caroline Overington's books and enjoyed them. This one was a slow-burn mystery, that part of me felt like it was incomplete and that the family never quite got the closure they needed. The book starts with Clare and Aaron's father dying and Clare flies back home from the US to Australia. While home, she has been away for years as there was nothing here for her. When they are cleaning out the house, they come across a former will of their dads that leaves everything to their Mum Eden. The thing is though that no one has heard from Eden for over twenty years as she left one day when they were kids and never came home or was heard from again. This sets Clare on a journey to finally discover the truth about her mother and in doing so, discover what her mother w...

Review: The Book of Cold Cases - Simone St. James

Review: The Book of Cold Cases - Simone St. James - March 2022 One of the authors that I decided for 2024 to read her books backlist is Simone St. James and I am slowly getting through them. This is the fourth one I have read and out of the four, there has only been one DNF. One of the themes that I have seen as a recurrence in all of Simone St. James's books is that she loves to have the ghosts of those who died violently still hanging around and haunting those in the present times. This book starts with four murders - we have Julian Greer, Marianne Greer, and then two men on the side of the road. The year was 1977 and the murders shocked the small town of Claire Lake and the prime suspect was Beth Greer. A witness placed her at the scene of the second crime and her car as well as ballistics matched the gun that killed her father. Beth thought was innocent but was sent to jail and labeled The LadyKiller. Now 40 years later, we meet Shea Collins aka Girl A. She has her cri...

Review: Unsolved - Book #1 Cal Lovett - Heather Critchlow - May 2023 Scrolling through the Libby App, I had a few books that needed to be read as others had holds on them. Unsolved was one of those reads. The book caught my attention as it talked about podcasts and cold cases and unsolved murders which has always been a topic that has fascinated me. Cal Lovett's family it seems is falling apart, as his wife is cheating on him and his daughter has been bullied and his podcast is failing. That is until he gets an opportunity to interview a serial killer Mark Dubois, however, Mark ends up killing himself before Cal can get a proper interview. Before he died though, he revealed two things to Cal - his real name which no one knows, and the name of his sister Margot who disappeared years ago when Cal was nine years old. During this book, Cal is put in touch with another cold case. A girl named Layla went missing in 1986 and only her horse returned all scratched up.  A body has never b...
