Review: Looking for Eden - Caroline Overington
Review: Looking for Eden - Caroline Overington - June 2024
Scrolling on my Libby Library App, I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for and saw this particular book was expiring soon and I knew I had read quite a few of Caroline Overington's books and enjoyed them. This one was a slow-burn mystery, that part of me felt like it was incomplete and that the family never quite got the closure they needed. The book starts with Clare and Aaron's father dying and Clare flies back home from the US to Australia. While home, she has been away for years as there was nothing here for her. When they are cleaning out the house, they come across a former will of their dads that leaves everything to their Mum Eden. The thing is though that no one has heard from Eden for over twenty years as she left one day when they were kids and never came home or was heard from again. This sets Clare on a journey to finally discover the truth about her mother and in doing so, discover what her mother was like and uncover a few dark secrets of the townsfolk who were around when her mum disappeared. Will Clare and Aaron like the results that they find? Will they finally get answers to where their mum is and what happened to her? This book also contains a side story of a sexual relationship seen as pedophilia between an older man / teenage girl and the court cases that follow this in the latter part of the story. If you are looking for a family drama/ mystery read that is slow-burn and less the gruesome and thriller aspect then Looking for Eden by Caroline Overington is the read for you.
