#VBT - Unpretty by Victoria Escobar

Review: Unpretty - Victoria Escobar - September 2015 Growing up we often live in a world where unless you are blonde , tall , wear make-up or is born beautiful and slim - you are considered ugly or plain or in a more PC term - you are simply Unpretty. This book appealed to me as firstly , this is something I had to grow up with with the bullying as I never seemed to be able to fit into people's perspectives of what was pretty and beautiful and growing up without a proper caring mother-figure ( my mum had Autism) I never was taught the things like wearing make-up etc. The other thing that drew me to this book was the fact , that I am a geek or a book nerd as people might put it. I love my TV shows, my books - ask me the latest book I can tell you but the latest music and clubbing scenes aren't my style. Sometimes I wish they were, you then add in a dysfunctional family - I had that and then put yourself in the lower socio-economic bracket - again I was there and then you ...

VBT# Songbird - Victoria Escobar

Image
Review: Songbird - Victoria Escobar - August 2015 When I first saw this book there were two things that jumped out at me , the first was that it was about music and in particular country music which I love as I am such a fan of country over any other type of music and the second thing was that it was set in Nashville, which I was lucky enough to visit back in December 2013. Nashville has always held a place in my heart as being one of the top homes to country and western music and anytime I read a book there now it makes me smile as I can be like I've been there and more often than not the author will mention something in Nashville and I'm like I've been there or I know where that is and it makes reading the book more real and personal. In Songbird we meet Bianca who reading the story, she had the power to become big and in a famous way huge, but personal life got in the way and obstacles which caused her to instead of embracing the limelight caused her to ba...

The band supported her takeover but the massive crew protested answering to a woman. On top of tip toeing around egos, discretion needed to be maintained while feeding Walker’s infamous sexual appetite. She never expected Walker to focus his wandering eyes on her. When her past returned fighting Walker didn't seem as vital as keeping him alive. Walking away should be easy, but first they must all make it through unharmed.

VBT# Unattainable - Victoria Escobar

Review: Unattainable - Victoria Escobar - April 2015 Wanting a night off to relax , Gwen heads to a bar to listen to some live music . She sits at the bar and talks to the bartender Yancey about life and how she doesn't really fit into this scene. I quite liked the character of Gwen as she was wearing a Captain America tshirt and since I am one for superhero tshirts, this made me smile and like her immediately.  We learn that Gwen is living a new life but has a hidden past as one of the world's best jewel thiefs and hoping she could move on with her life is one of her main goals , the thing is though is that she is now held on a short leash by Interpol as when one of her last jobs went terribly wrong , she found herself sitting with an ultimatum - work for us or go to prison. This part reminded me of Criminal Minds with Penelope Garcia's life when she used to be a hacker and was caught by the FBI and given the option to go to jail or work for the BAU and she ...
