VBT# Unattainable - Victoria Escobar

Review: Unattainable - Victoria Escobar - April 2015

Wanting a night off to relax , Gwen heads to a bar to listen to some live music . She sits at the bar and talks to the bartender Yancey about life and how she doesn't really fit into this scene. I quite liked the character of Gwen as she was wearing a Captain America tshirt and since I am one for superhero tshirts, this made me smile and like her immediately.  We learn that Gwen is living a new life but has a hidden past as one of the world's best jewel thiefs and hoping she could move on with her life is one of her main goals , the thing is though is that she is now held on a short leash by Interpol as when one of her last jobs went terribly wrong , she found herself sitting with an ultimatum - work for us or go to prison. This part reminded me of Criminal Minds with Penelope Garcia's life when she used to be a hacker and was caught by the FBI and given the option to go to jail or work for the BAU and she chose the BAU over prison.  In the bar playing that night for all his groupies is lead singer Micah - in all his adorning body artwork and one word stands out in Gwen's mind 'Outcast" . Over the night we see Micah distracted by Gwen as for some reason he can't get it out of his head that she wasn't paying attention to his music like all the others and this draws him to her.  We later learn that Micah again just like Gwen has a dark past which led him into a lot of trouble and now he owes debt to the Chinese Triad run by Madam JingJing. She has a job for him that could wipe out most of his debt , but is it worth it ? During this time Gwen has been contacted by Interpol to help bring down none other than JingJing and her crew which of course Micah is a part of . When their jobs and lives collide what will happen when they start to fall for one another ? Can they make their goal of freedom or will the idea of love be the obstacle that stands in their way and makes their freedom and one desire - unattainable ?
