Review: The Lost and the Scarred - T. Marie Alexander

The Lost and the Scarred (Kingston City Limits, #1)

Review: The Lost and the Scarred - Book #1 Kingston City Limits Series - T. Marie Alexander - September 2019
This book is an edgy read and starts off with a bang - literally as we are faced with a stand-off between Roxy's nanny and her father. The book then jumps to Roxy being found curled up in the snow by brothers Josh and Wran. Wran blames Roxy for their problems as his father used to work for Roxy's dad and when he did what he did, their father lost his job and started drinking heavily. On the other hand, though, Wran finds himself drawn to Roxy and wants to protect her. The book then jumps to Roxy being 17 almost 18 years old and working her time between school and her job as a waitress. We also learn that she has had a standing appointment with Josh every Saturday for the past three years. Something else that happened three years ago was that Wran vanished and went to the army, this completely broke Roxy as we learn and now he is back. Roxy doesn't want him to ruin everything she has worked for, but it won't be easy to stay on track as her father is now out of prison and he wants his little Lost Girl back as well as if he can’t have her anyone can.  The Lost and the Scarred was a very angsty read and I enjoyed it, though the ending and the result of the situation surrounding Harley really pissed me off. I was like Noooooo, how can you do this to Roxy after everything she has been through and she has been trying so hard, it's not her fault. I am now eager to read book #2 as I am hoping that Roxy will finally get her HEA with Harley. I think this part annoyed me more than usual as I have two nephews in CYFS care and when you are a good person and you want to take them, they make you jump through hoops and it's impossible, yet all these bad parents out there get to keep their kids and more often than not - their children die but the good ones or family members don't stand a chance. I always find this part of the system broken and backward. Overall, if you are wanting an Angsty NA and a novel away from the usual bullymance but one that still has that aspect, then check out The Lost and the Scarred by T.Marie Alexander - Book #1 in the Kingston City Limits series today.
