Beaten Paths

Review: Beaten Paths - Stephie Walls - September 2019

Those who have read Stephie Walls before will remember her release this time last year - Gravel Road which featured the story of Miranda aka Randi and Austin Burin.  In Beaten Paths, we go back into the same family and a similar story. At the beginning of Gravel Road, we read as Randi was grounded from her sister Sarah and decided to walk out of home and head to the lake with Austin and her friends. Sarah, feeling very angry with Randi decided to go after her and tragedy ensued and she was in a car crash. This accident was the point Randi left the story to find her own way in the world as she knew Sarah's accident was her fault and after some nasty words with her dad Jack - she ran away. Of course, in the end, we saw her head back home to her family and reunite with Sarah and Charlie and their children.  Beaten Paths to me felt like it should have been Book #1 as this is Sarah's story of her journey after the accident, finding out Randi is no longer at home and the worrying she may never speak to her sister again and of course her falling in love with Charlie Burin. As we do know Sarah overcomes a lot during her story and Beaten Paths delves deeper into the emotional side of Sarah's recovery as this was only briefly touched on in Gravel Road.  If you have read Gravel Road, then Beaten Paths will touch lightly on a few of the same story and I feel it should have been a prequel or at least written first. If not, then read Beaten Paths before moving onto Gravel Road by Stephie Walls.
