Review: Of Curses and Kisses - Sandhya Menon

Of Curses and Kisses (St. Rosetta's Academy, #1)

Review: Of Curses and Kisses - Sandhya Menon - February 2020

One of my favorite things that I love to read is renditions of classics and fairytales and so when I saw Of Curses and Kisses and how it was a modern take on Beauty and the Beast, I just had to give it a go. This book also ticks the box of diversity in YA fiction as the main characters are Indian and British and are written by an AOC. Jaya's family is Indian Royalty - the Raos and Grey's family is British Royalty - the Emersons. Years ago when Britain invaded India, the Emersons stole a ruby from the Raos and the Raos cursed the Emersons and that one day their line would end when the last heir turned 18. Grey this year will be turning 18.  The Raos and the Emersons are like the Hatfields and the McCoys. After Jaya's sister was humiliated and the evidence pointed towards the Emersons, Jaya concocts a plan to hurt Grey by getting him to fall in love with her, and then she will break his heart and splash it over the tabloids - just like what happened to her younger sister. However, when Jaya meets Grey, he is nothing like she ever imagined, and then when he acts like he doesn't know anything about her family Jaya must decide whether he is telling the truth and if he didn't send the photos in, then who did? Is someone else out there trying to ruin her family? What will happen though when Jaya and Grey's feelings become true for each other? Can Jaya who has always been the "good girl" step out of line for love or will she break her own heart by following and doing her "family duties"? Find out in this fun YA read "Of Curses and Kisses" by Sandhya Menon.
