Review: They're Watching You - Chelsea Ichaso
Review: They're Watching You - Chelsea Ichaso - January 2023
One of the things I have always loved about being a book reviewer/blogger is that you get the perks of often receiving books months before their release date like this one for example. This was the second book of Chelsea Ichaso's that I have read and when I saw it come up after enjoying her book Dead Girls Can't Tell Secrets, I knew I wanted to read this one without a doubt. They're watching you is a twisted read of friendship and power as it takes you into the world of a few of my favorite tropes from wealthy boarding school novels, secret societies, and teen thrillers. The other thing was that as the book moved on it was about playing games and being the winner to succeed in life which gave the novel a feel similar for me to the movie Ready or Not / Games Night. The book starts with Maren's friend Polly going missing and Maren knows it is to do with this "secret society" that she got herself mixed up in. Maren manages to score herself an invitation and gets initiated, to find her friend. During this time, Maren will meet Remington who like Polly - his ex-girlfriend Jane has gone missing. The two of them will have to work together and against each other as they race against the Gamemaster's clock to find clues to save the ones they care for/love. What will happen though when they learn that everything they ever thought was true is just part of a giant game and with no clue how many teachers/ students are players - who can they trust when the world is watching them. One of my favorite quotes in this book was when they mentioned Pretty Little Liars as that is one of my all-time favorite YA Series. This book is the perfect YA read for fans of thrillers and secret societies.
