Hello
Everyone! I am Rebecca Ethington, the author of the final book in The
Supernatural Chronicles: New Orleans. I enjoyed writing The Noir so much, and I
hope you guys enjoy reading it, as well as all of the other wonderful stories
that make up this epic story!
One
of the questions we have all been getting quite a lot is if we all had fun
writing all of these different supernatural characters? And if it was hard
coming up with different ways to make them unique?
The
short answer is YES!
So
much yes, hence the caps lock. I know we all had a blast writing such
wonderfully different characters and taking familiar tropes and turning them
into our own.
It
was fun for me, as the caboose of the project, to watch everything blossom and
grow into the amazing collaborative work that it was. But what was more, it was
fun for me to wrap everything up and create a broad story ARC that could take
these characters into our next adventure.
And
for me, that involved something different than what everyone else was instructed
to do.
I
had to create a whole new race of supernatural creatures.
And,
like every other author I know, I loved every minute of it.
I
love creating something from the depths of nothing, I love pulling bits of
information and creativity out of my imagination and moulding and shaping it
into something extraordinary. There is
something spectacular about the power of your imagination to do that.
Now,
I have done this with every other of my stories as I kind of have a thing
against tropes, so the process of creating something new is not new to me.
However,
this process was different than any other creature I have created before,
because I had a book cover.
I
had a book cover, with a hauntingly beautiful girl that I knew at once was one
of The Noir, but what would a beautiful girl be doing in hell?
That
was the question I had to find the answer to - and not only for her, but for
all of the supernatural chronicles.
I
know many aspiring writers struggle with questions like this every day, and if
I had one piece of advice to anyone creating something amazing out there - it’s
this: Don’t Hold Back.
Don’t
be scared of the places your imagination takes you. Don’t be worried about what
people will think, or nervous about what they will say.
Just
let it flow, and let your imagination take control, and I can guarantee you -
that amazing things will happen.
