Review: Meet Cute - Helena Hunting - April 2019
Every now and again I need to get a break from reading one particular trope and I like my occasional light-hearted romance and Meet Cute by Helena Hunting looked like it could be a bit of a fun novel. The novel starts out with the first day of law school and Kailyn falls over Dax who was trying his hand at being a lawyer after the TV show he had starred on the majority of his childhood had come to an end. Kailyn had a crush on his character but the real Dax brought out the worst in her and over the next few years they would in class become healthy competitors and Kailyn assumed mutual friends , that was until she was in the running for valedictorian and he sabotaged her chances and took out the Number #1 spot as he handed in her essay late. Now years later Kailyn is busy working in a law firm and trying to become partner when in walks Dax's parents with his sister Emmy. They are wanting to set her up a trust and have a new will in place. This book then takes a downer as a few weeks later Dax's parents are killed in a crash and Dax becomes an instant father as he has been placed as guardian of Emmy. This begins a custody battle as his Aunt Lisa wants Emmy and not for good reasons which are later brought to light in the novel and will do everything in her power to make Dax look incompetent and the bad guy. Kailyn is then appointed as Emmy's court-appointed rep and becomes close to Dax and Emmy. During this time, her boss has also offered her partnership if she can get Dax to change firms. This is her dream come true or is it really as she finds her priorities changing and love growing for Dax and Emmy. What will happen though when Dax learns about the potential partnership and believes the worst of Kailyn and breaks her heart all over again, just as he had done years before in college? Find out in this cutesy hallmark felt story by Helena Hunting. Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren's stories.
