Cocky Duke (Cocky Hero Club)

Review: Cocky Duke - #Cocky Hero Club Series - Annabelle Anders - May 2020

Similar to Penny Reid's Smartypants Romance series where the books are set in her worlds but written by other authors are the Cocky Hero Club in which the books are set in the world of the Cocky Series by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland. As readers of Cocky Bastard would know Chance is well - cocky. In Cocky Duke, we have Chance set in a regency romance world. I have to admit, I don't normally read historical regency romance as I am not keen on that era. In Cocky Duke, we first meet Aubrey aka Ambrosia Bloomington who is a widow on her way to London. Our book starts with Aubrey staring out the window at a hottie outside by his horse - that turns out to be Charles aka Chance. He is on his way home to celebrate his 30th birthday. Night falls and it turns out the Inn has no spare beds and the pair ends up sharing a carriage. During their ride to London, the pair start to get closer and we learn about Aubrey's horrible marriage and bits and pieces of Chance's life - yet he remains majorly a mystery throughout the novel. For me, I got a bit annoyed with the talking of Aubrey's past as we know she was married and had sex - but no kissing? We also have to remember this was a regency era so kissing is something that they would do first and not bypass sex, they weren't that forthright from what I have seen in movies set during that period. Of course, the pair goes their separate ways and years pass and Chance and Aubrey are reunited, however, Aubrey is courting someone else. Has Chance missed his well chance with Aubrey or will this Cocky Duke finally get his princesse?
Find out in the May collection of the Cocky Hero Club Novellas.
