Review: Stranger Danger - Maren Stoffels

Review: Stranger Danger - Maren Stoffels - May 2023

In the mood for a clean YA Thriller? This book though had a lot of edgy topics, it was written in a way that it came across clean at the same time.  The book starts with a new school year and we meet the new teacher Robin Schilds - she is on the bigger side and becomes the victim of bullying by three students Bittersweet aka Nova, her sidekick Lotus, and Nova's boyfriend Vin. Things become difficult for Robin and she ends up quitting and moving away. The story then jumps to a weekend away for the friends. Just before the evening away, Lotus gets a mysterious text on her hidden phone, the one she shared with her secret lover - teacher Reid Hunter who also happens to be married. The text is threatening and she starts to worry that someone knows her secret. Once away, the messages continue and she soon realizes that her friends and she are not alone and that someone wants to hurt them. That person happens to be Robin - their old teacher. The book then jumps through past/present timelines and from the viewpoints of Robin(teacher), Lotus, and Vin. Can the three friends survive the weekend away or will revenge cause harm against them? Stranger Danger by Maren Stoffels was a good YA thriller and reminded me of the books I used to read in the late 90s/ early 2000s Point Horrors. Stranger Danger is the perfect read for those who want a bit of a thriller but not the gruesome side of thrillers/mysteries.
