Review: Two and Twenty Dark Tales - Edited by Georgine McBride and Michelle Zink

Have you ever been holding out for a book as you thought it would be the best thing ever only to find that your own expectation exceeded that of the actual book ?
This is what happened to me with today's book .
Review: Two and Twenty Dark Tales - Anthology edited by Georgina McBride and Michelle Zink - October 2012
Four and Twenty Blackbirds sitting in a row , or in this case Two and Twenty Dark Stories sitting in a book waiting to be read by anyone who can handle their dark retellings. Some are gruesome and trust me, once you read this book you can say goodbye to all your favourite nursery rhymes as you really will see them in a different light. This book is a collection of tales from 22 of your favourite authors, each author has chosen to re-tell a classic favourite Nursery Rhyme from Mother Goose from Wee Willie Winkie to Four and Twenty Blackbirds. Some of the stories I found awesome , others just didn't grab me the right way. One common thread I did find was that in these dark tales - fantasy and other worlds featured quite high and foreign retellings of the Nursery Rhymes. To me, I was a bit disappointed as I had been waiting in anticipation for the book and my expectations were too high. However, if you are going forth to reading this book because you are intrigued into how the authors can make your favourite nursery rhymes into dark short stories or books like this are right up your alley, then you will really enjoy this Anthology. I think personally for me I would have loved to have seen more common Nursery rhymes by Mother Goose as quite a few in this retelling Anthology, I had not heard.  However, I give kudos to the cover designer as I love how they have done the cover like a story book.
