Review:
All Calliope has ever wanted to do was become a writer, but her parents and family are really strict and see writing as a frivolous activity and believe that Calliope should be concentrating on her academic grades. When her parents find out that she has entered a short story competition, instead of the grounding she had expected. This is the last straw for her parents and they decide to send her to a boarding school called Ecrivain Academy. From the brochures, it looks like it has a strict curriculum-based and no time for frivolous extra-curricular activities like writing. However, Calliope is about to get the surprise of her life as this school is actually secretly a school for writers. Since Calliope hasn't found her niche, she will check out the different houses like Lovecraft, Shakespeare, and Austen. During her first few terms, she will make a few new friends but also enemies. What will happen though when her new friends end up murdered but everyone thinks it is suicide ? Can Calliope along with Jesse prove that her friends were murdered and if she isn't careful, she may end up just like them as she starts to also receive blackmail letters? This book ended on a major cliffhanger which means I can't wait to read Book #2 and find out whether anyone else believes the theory of murder. The other thing I found awesome was that as this book is set in France - that Ecrivain in French translates to "Writer".
