The Price of Silence

Review: The Price of Silence - Staci Stallings - April 2018
Clearing my kindle, I was scrolling through the kindle and I came across The Price of Silence by Staci Stallings and it had a thriller aspect to the book and so I decided to give it a go. I didn't have any expectations as to such for the book but OMG this was an amazing and powerful read. It even left me at the end going WOW as it packed a punch. This book starts with Robyn Lockhart's parents getting a divorce and moving from a small tiny Iowa to a new town which is a large city with her mother. When Robyn arrives at school, her eyes are opened wide and she feels sucked into a massive sea of students as her old school only had about 150-300 students altogether. During her first class, she meets a great teacher Mr. Tucker who runs the journalism class and newspaper club. He will become a great mentor to Robyn during this novel. She also makes new friends Kat and her boyfriend Chad and Sean Hudson. During her first week, Robyn learns that at her school - dangers are lurking in the hallways as there is a local gang called Scorpions that have members that go to the James Madison High School. When Robyn writes an article exposing some of the danger, she will find herself thrown into the firing line of the Scorpion gangs and she starts to receive threatening messages and soon will start to try and frame her for numerous crimes. However, despite the craziness, Robyn is standing her ground and not letting the gang overpower her life. What will happen though when the gang moves to murder and stalking and Robyn's life starts to crash hard and fast?
The Price of Silence was a powerful read and shows the aftermath and the side nobody sees when you stand up for something right, that can have deadly consequences.
In a way, this book reminded me of Angie Thomas's The Hate U Give with the standing up for what you believe despite people trying to pull you down for it.
