Review: Like A Sister - Kellye Garrett
Review: Like a Sister - Kellye Garrett - March 2022
This one has been on my list to read for
a while now as it sounded intriguing. The book starts with Lena Scott learning
through the news online that her half-sister Desiree has been found dead of a
supposed overdose. Lena races to the apartment, to verify and sees news crews
and reporters, and police. How can this be, especially as her sister was found
in the Bronx away from her home uptown? Lena and Desiree have been estranged
for the past two years but now Lena feels guilt and wants to find out the truth
about what happened to her sister. It was reported that Desiree was depressed
and shot up Heroin. This doesn't line up with Lena as she knows her sister
would never kill herself as she's too vain and she has a fear of needles which
is why coke and pot are her vices. As the book goes along, we meet Lena and
Desiree's dad and learn he is a famous music producer and how the families
blend into each other. During the book, I did like Lena's character as she is
determined to find out the truth and clear the news about her sister while
everyone else is just happy to assume the worst. Armed with Desiree's friend
Erin Ambrose, Lena will learn about secrets that surrounded the accident two
years ago - the incident that stopped them talking and is someone wanting to
make sure Desiree never reveals the dark truth of what happened that night? I
did like this book and I loved the whole super black hero persona as that is
the way I have read and know others are taught to hold in their emotions and
power as there is no point in wallowing in self-pity. This is similar to how I
was taught is you have your small cry and then soldier on and get on with
things as life isn't going to just stop because you want it to. The only part
that confused me was Stuart's involvement as he seemed like a minor part
through the book and then at the end he was in full speed and it just felt out
of place for the story as a whole. Overall, if you love family dramas and
romantic suspense, then check out Like A Sister by Kellye Garrett today.
