The Freddy Kruger / Jason Vorhees Killer
For most of us when we watch horror movies, it is for our enjoyment as we love the adrenaline boost it gives us. After we finish the movie, we may talk about it and then move on to another film. Our serial spree killer Daniel Gonzales however when he watched horror movies like the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th films he aspired to be just like Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees. Instead of wanting to be a policeman or fireman when he grew up like most children, Daniel’s dream was to become a serial killer and frighten people.
Daniel Gonzales:
Daniel’s dream became a reality in September 2004 where he lived in the UK when he decided to go on a three-day spree killing beginning on the 15th of September and ending on the 17th September.
On the morning of the 15th of September, Daniel left his house at 9 am
armed with a steak knife in his backpack. He then caught the train and got off
at Hillsea Station and walked to the Portscreek area which was known to be an
often-isolated area for joggers and walkers.
Here he spotted his first potential victim, a 61-year-old man named
Peter King Daniel jumped out and told Peter he was going to kill him. Daniel
lunged and stabbed Peter in the leg but what Daniel didn’t expect was Peter
fought back and the two men had a tumble and fight. The knife also struck close to Peter’s chin a
few times and he thought he was going to die, but after 30 seconds of fighting
Daniel gave up and ran away leaving Peter King bleeding and shocked about the whole
encounter.
After this attack, Daniel realized he was going to have to target more vulnerable people – one’s who wouldn’t be able to fight back like Peter King. Armed with a second knife and wearing a hockey mask like his idol Jason Vorhees, Daniel laid wait in the bushes and his first fatal victim was a woman in her 70’s Marie Harding who he struck from behind as she was on her way home. He stabbed her in the back and then slit her throat and robbed her of twenty pounds. After this killing, Daniel wrote in his diary ‘I will be a serial killer. I mean it, I promise. I will be a serial killer,'. 'I got that old bitch proper, bloodbath, pouring out of her throat, boy, McFlurry! 'I got to say this, it felt, really, really good. One of the best things I've done in my life.'
The next night, armed with two more large knives Daniel had his eyes on his next victim 46-year-old Kevin Molloy who was walking home drunk from a night out. Kevin was found an hour later on the street with multiple stab wounds.
His next two attempted victims Daniel decided to switch up his MO and broke into the house of Koumis and Christella Constantinou. After another fight, Daniel left the Constantinou’s fighting for their lives but alive as he fled with blood splattered clothes and headed to the scene of his next fatal murders which as you can imagine he was feeling frustrated and sadly the murders of Daniel’s last two victims were considered his final and most savage attack.
75-year-old Derek Robinson and his wife 60-year-old Jean Robinson never expected that their day would turn out to be their last on this earth as they sat down for breakfast when their doorbell rang and standing at their door was Daniel Gonzales. After he killed the couple, Daniel is said to have quoted that he felt clean, orgasmic. I had washed all the crap out of my life. I felt better.
Daniel’s crazy mistake was after the killing of the Robinsons, he decided to clean up and take a shower when a decorator turned up to the house and discovered the blood-splattered mess Daniel fled from the scene but was later caught after Police followed him onto a train at Tottenham Court Road station.
The Trial:
At his trial, Daniel claimed that he was mentally
ill and couldn’t take responsibility for the actions he had committed. The jury
however found him to be a cold, callous psychopath who killed because he could.
In 2006, the jury found him guilty and he was sentenced to six life sentences
for the four murders and two attempted murders and said he would never see the
light of day.
Daniel’s Demise:
With no hope of ever seeing the outside world again, Daniel decided to take the way out and killed himself using shattered parts of a CD case, as he slit his wrists on August 9th, 2007 in his cell. Unlike his idols, as this is real life he won’t be back.
