VBT# The Night the Stars Went Dark - Heather D'Agostino

Review: The Night the Stars Went Dark - H. D'Agostino - August 2024

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but first, can I tell you how beautifully eerie this cover is? It also sums up the story perfectly. This is also a book that reads quickly and was a very clean romance at the same time, where you have hints of it -but this book isn't a romance story. This is a book about growth and overcoming grief, but in the same way, this book wasn't a heartwrenching one. You felt the sadness that the main female went through but at the same time, it did not need you to ugly cry.  Honestly, this book was one of the most beautifully written novels I have read but at the same time, it was just such a simple story and not very complex. It was one of those books that reached you but didn't have the feel or need to go deeper into the surface or for the author to use emotive language. You just know and feel it with each page. Our main female was a music prodigy but suffered the loss of first her mother which prompted her and her dad to chuck themselves into music as it made them happy. But after her father died, Aspen lost the ability to play the music as for her it was just too much and opened the floodgates of grief, so she buried it deeper and deeper. That is until years later, she is reunited with her best friend Ben from her music days and a happier time when her dad was alive. He knows that she is squandering her gift and that when she isn't playing the music, she isn't happy and without music, her night is dark as it's like the stars have vanished. He is in town only for a short time, before he moves on to his next music venture. Can he prove to Aspen that it's time to move on and find the music again? This book reminded me of the movie with Hilary Duff - Raise Your Voice where she lost the music after her brother died, but with the help of a great music teacher etc - she was able to rediscover the music that had previously made her and those around her happy.  If you want a 5-star read, then check out The Night The Stars Went Dark by H. D'Agostino today.
