Review: Under Her Skin - Alexis Lauren

Review: Under Her Skin - Alexis Lauren - September 2012

Under Her Skin , by the cover I thought it was a teen novel but as I got reading it started off as a teen music novel but then by about halfway through it started to read more like a New Adult romance . Under Her Skin takes readers onto the road with new rising stars band "Pleasure Point" and follows the band as they tour around and perform shows all across the nation. The story focuses mainly on Tobias - the lead singer of the band and Marlo - an "unofficial" PR person and groupie - her brother Dusty was one of the founding members of the band. Marlo aka Lola to her friends has a crush on Tobias but of course she is too proud to let him know and instead the pair tease the heck out of each other, this is what made me think it was a teenage novel. Later at one of the concerts, Marlo finds herself being attacked and almost raped - Tobias arrives just in time and stops the attacker leaving him almost beaten to death. This is a turning point for the pair as they start to open up to each other but at the same time Marlo starts retreating back into her shell and the only one Tobias can think of to bring her back to her old self is for him to be a jerk and play on his womanizing charms. Eventually this works and Marlo goes back to hating Tobias but at the same time has this set off another plan in motion which gets them both to realise that they actually do love each other - this is the part where the novel for me starts to move into the "new adult" contemporary romance part. Will Tobias finally realise that he is a one-woman man with Marlo or will his playboy ways be too great to give up even for the woman he supposedly loves ?
Find out in Alexis Lauren's book "Under Her Skin" - also a good read if you want to see what happens behind the scenes during concert tours with the band.
