Review: Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies - Laura Stampler - July 2016

All Harper has ever wanted to be was a journalist and to get into a college with a great journalism programme. When she applies for an intern position with Shift magazine, she realises she has to write an essay about something amazing in her life . The thing is she can't think of anything as she has lived the most boring life ever, her best friend Kristina though on the other hand as an amazing life as she is pretty, athletic and popular and had a lot of hook-ups and relationships. So Harper, decides to embellish and use one of Kristina's stories as her own personal essay.  Months pass and she doesn't hear anything back and assumes she didn't get in , then the day before Summer starts - Harper gets a phone call telling her that they want her as the dating writer intern this Summer. Harper hops on a plane and goes to stay with her Aunt Vee and Pomeranian Princess. Here she is about to discover that the magazine world is all about stats and clicks and how popular your story is trending , the more the better. Being here, Harper gets to re-invent herself which is what she does and so begins her dating articles which lead her on all sorts of adventures and meeting new people and two guys in particular - Carter Bosh and Ben Harrison. Carter is your rich spoilt boy and Ben is the boy-next-door.  What will happen though when Harper's lies and life in NYC starts to unravel after one of her posts goes viral ? Can Harper handle the pressure of being out in the public eye , the hate-mail and comments ? Or will she rise ahead with this newfound fame and prove to everyone that though Harper may not have any "real" dating experience, that she is an amazing writer and that's what counts ?
Find out all this and more in Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies - an insight into today's world of magazines and social media where clicks, boosts and retweets are all the rage.
