What Makes Me...Me

Review: What Makes Me .. Me - Anne and Levi Baldwin - June 2021

This was a cute read as I love books that highlight our differences and show children that it doesn't matter if we are wired differently, we are all unique and stars. Everything that we do plays a part in our personalities and it is ourselves that make us who we are. The other thing I loved about this book is it shows just our accepting the world is getting and making a way for neurodivergence to shine through and that having your brains wired differently doesn't make you an odd bod. The illustrations in this book are also adorably cute and I couldn't help but laugh and feel joy for the little boy in the book as he was just living life to his full potential and living to the max and not having a care in the world what anyone said. He was just being himself. We learn that the little boy has Tourette’s which was shown by the tics and they also try to label him with ADHD and OCD. Labels though are just medical terms to put you in a box and get funding, when things come to the crunch you are just another human being and, in this case, a happy little boy living his life. What Makes Me... Me by Anne and Levi Baldwin is based on true experiences and is a great fictional resource for teaching children about differences or if your child is a little out of the box, then teaching them that everything is going to be alright :). This picture book is perfect for children aged between 4-8 years old.
