Review: The September House - Carissa Orlando

Review: The September House - Carissa Orlando - September 2023

This book has been on my wishlist to read ever since I saw it on several Instagram pages, it just looked and sounded good and right up my alley. The September House reminded me of the books written by Riley Sager and Grady Hendrix. Those tales of horror and thrillers with a hint of supernatural.  It even in parts reminded of The Amityville Horror with the house being the cause of several deaths and murders. The book begins with Margaret and Hal finding their perfect house, a lovely old Victorian Home at a cheap cost. All is well until September hits and then the month of September is awful screaming and blood dripping down the walls as well as the ghosts come out to play. Then come October and everything resumes to normal. Life goes well and as long as they follow the rules all is well, until one day Hal has had enough of the ghosts, the craziness, and following the rules. He begs Margaret to leave, but she is stubborn and won't leave her house as she won't let the ghosts and Master Vale win. At the beginning of the new September, Katherine- their daughter calls and is very worried about her dad. Despite Margaret's protests she comes to search for her dad, what will happen though when Katherine discovers the truth about the house and everything inside? Will she just see her mum as crazy or will she be able to see everything and understand with her own eyes? What has happened to Hal and where is he hiding?  Find out in this fun, horror read - the perfect story to devour during Spooktober 2023.
