Review: The Lake House - Sarah Beth Durst - April 2023

As we are in October which tends to be Spooktober Reading, I have tried to sprinkle a few scary/horror-related reads into my reading lists. This one was one I clicked on as the previous couple of books before this one were DNFs, again nothing I was reading was keeping my interest and I do go through phases like that. The Lake House however drew me in from the beginning as we meet three teens who have come to "The Lake House" for the summer, each for the reasons their parents have sent them there. We learn that about twenty years ago, one or both of their parents went to the camp at the same time and during their stay, they all went into the woods - but one of them didn't return. He was forgotten about and acted like he didn't exist. When the girls arrive, the building is burned down and their camp facilitator has a bullet to the head. What is going on? The girls though have no way of getting off either as the only way in and out is the boat that just dropped them off. Can the three girls work together and survive the dangers of the island including a killer and an evil spirit? Find out in Sarah Beth Durst's spooky read that will make you question whether it's a good idea to visit a Lake House, the next time you are invited.
