Review: The Only Survivors - Megan Miranda

Review: The Only Survivors - Megan Miranda - April 2023

Years ago, I read a couple of Megan Miranda's books and enjoyed them - though overall I do find this author a hit/miss for me. In The Only Survivors by Megan Miranda, we meet a group of classmates who were thrown together after a tragic accident that killed the majority of their classmates when two of the vans drove off the road - ten years ago.  Every year since the accident during the week of the accident - the survivors - there are now 7 of them get together as they made a pact never to talk about the accident and to check in with each other once a year. They stay at a beach house owned by survivor Oliver King.  The tenth anniversary though won't be like others as now there are two dead - Clara and Ian, Amaya is missing after she storms out and Cassidy can't help but think that the group is hiding secrets especially since she was lured to the beach house by a random text message. Who wants the whole group there and during this time, we learn that members of the group have been targeted to find out what happened that night? Who else knows about what went on? Was there another survivor they didn't know about? Can The Only Survivors survive the night as deep dark secrets about all their roles in the tragedy slowly leak out over the week? The Only Survivors was written in a past/present timeline and fans of Riley Sager's books will enjoy Megan Miranda's stories. The Only Survivors also makes a good read for Spooktober where I have aimed to read mostly thriller/horror reads. I am now looking forward to going back through Megan Miranda's booklist and trying the ones I haven't explored.
