Review: Hateful Vows - Book #1 Wicked Falls Elite Series - C.Hallman - September 2024


This morning, I tried a few books and couldn't get into them and still wanting to read, I got lucky with Book #4 which turned out to be Hateful Vows by C. Hallman. I figured if all else failed, a good bully romance would hit the spot. In the town of Wicked Falls, there are five founding families and the sons of those founding families are the ones who rule the school. One of those is Briggs Weston, his family collapsed after his dad had an affair with Wren's mother. Wren's mother made a deal with Brigg's dad for Wren to get a spot at the elite Wicked Falls High. The thing though is that Briggs has decided that he is going to make it his job to break Wren and he will do whatever he wants. Hateful Vows is a dark romance and so there are plenty of scenes of sexual assault and harassment and scenes that can be construed as rape and physical/sexual abuse. This is one of those bullymances where the town turns a blind eye to the boys and just lets them be. What happens though when Wren starts to get death threats and the bullying takes a notch higher with others starting to bully her besides Briggs. What happens though when Briggs's view of Wren starts to change and he becomes softer but still a grade-A- jerk. Though is Wren safe as Briggs is about to bring her right into the lion's den?   Review: Punk 57 - Penelope Douglas - October 2016 As soon as I read Bully by Penelope Douglas, I was in love with this author. So when she released a new one who had my favorite theme of penpals and that whole friend to lovers going on, I knew I had to read it. The book started out with a bit of background where we learned about how Misha and Ryen were placed together in a classroom project penpal program. The pair continues to write to each other right through the year, and then they take it to the next level and continue through the rest of their schooling. Fast forward to high school Misha is in a band and Ryen is out with her friends and they complete a scavenger hunt form. Ryen is not what Misha expected especially from her letters.
