Review: The Wife Upstairs - Freida McFadden - March 2020

Sylvia has just gotten out of a toxic relationship and is inching close to eviction from her apartment, she just needs to find a new job. On a day that seems to go to crap, she is given a sliver of hope as she meets Adam Bennett. He is looking for someone to act as his wife's live-in companion as a few years ago his wife had an accident and fell down the stairs. Sylvia accepts even though it just seems too good to be true. She is about to discover that, that is the case as Victoria leads Sylvia to her diary that she kept from when she first met Adam and leading up to their marriage and living in this big house. As Sylvia reads it, she starts to see another side of Adam one that paints him as a bad guy and possibly the source of why Victoria fell down the stairs. As Sylvia gets closer to Adam, she is asked by Victoria to grab his gun for her as Adam needs to "die". When things start to spiral, Sylvia will find herself locked in the middle of a battle between husband and wife - both as jealous as each other, but when it comes to the crunch - who will Sylvia believe - Adam her boss, and the guy she has started to sleep with and confide in or Victoria - the female she has gotten to know through her words and diary and spending time with? Those who read Verity by Colleen Hoover will feel at home with The Wife Upstairs as I found both books to be slightly similar in vibes and a little in the storyline. If you are a fan of Freida McFadden's, then you will know that with all her books - not all is what it seems and The Wife Upstairs was no different.

  Review: Punk 57 - Penelope Douglas - October 2016 As soon as I read Bully by Penelope Douglas, I was in love with this author. So when she released a new one who had my favorite theme of penpals and that whole friend to lovers going on, I knew I had to read it. The book started out with a bit of background where we learned about how Misha and Ryen were placed together in a classroom project penpal program. The pair continues to write to each other right through the year, and then they take it to the next level and continue through the rest of their schooling. Fast forward to high school Misha is in a band and Ryen is out with her friends and they complete a scavenger hunt form. Ryen is not what Misha expected especially from her letters.
