Review: One for the Murphys - Lynda Mullay Hunt

Review: One for the Murphys -Lynda Mullay Hunt - May 2012

Have you ever picked up a book and started reading it and then all of a sudden become overwhelmed with an emotion you as the reader never expected from that particular book? For me that was my experience with One for The Murphys as it was a Children's fiction book though it is ultimately aimed more at the tweenage audience of 11+ - 16ish.  In One for the Murphys we meet Carley Connors who has ended up in hospital after a severe beating from her stepfather, the worst thing is that her mother let it happen and now Carley has ended up in the foster care system for the time being. It is here that she is placed with the Murphys family , it is with this family that Carley will discover the true meaning of what it is like to be loved and cared for , what it is like to have a real family and a mother who cares for her. To be valued as a person and not as a liability. This book is an amazing book that in parts is quite moving and emotional. I will warn readers , that the last two chapters of this novel is one that you have to have a pack of tissues nearby as not expecting it I ended up with tears rolling down my face by the time I had finished the last page.
This is one book that all tweens if they are wanting to get a glimpse into early Edgy Content Fiction should all read.
