Review: Betting On You - Lynn Painter

Review: Betting On You - Lynn Painter - November 2023

This book was the first one I had read of Lynn Painter's and I loved it as it reminded me of the "betting" movies of my late tweens/ early teen years where the popular guy made a bet that he could bed the female geeky character, only to fall head over heels with her and then of course the losing jerk, goes and ruins their HEA as he just proudly announces in front of the girl, that the guy won the bet. Like what a douchebag. On Instagram, a group of friends were doing a buddy read this month and since I had received an ARC copy from HarperCollins NZ, it was the perfect time to get stuck into it and give it a read. The book starts with our two main characters Charlie and Bailey meeting at the airport and then becoming seat buddies. They are both members of the Divorced Kids Club. Three months later, the pair meet again at the movies while Charlie is on a date with Becca and Bailey has Zach. The pair once go their separate ways till a year later, they end up as co-workers at a new amusement fun park/ hotel called Planet Fun. There is chemistry between the pair and we read as they go from Enemies to Friends to Lovers, what will happen though when Charlie makes a bet with Theo - only to discover he is falling for this bookish girl? I loved the fact that Bailey was a bookstagrammer and reviewer and her job sounded awesome as well. Can Charlie not only settle the bet but also win the girl's heart back? If you love movies like She's All That and 10 Things I Hate About You, then you will love Lynn Painter's Betting On You - a very #meetcute YA romance, as this is a YA read - the book is also appropriate for readers from 13-14+ with its clean romance scenes. I am now looking forward to going back and reading Lynn Painter’s other titles.
