Review: The Housemaid - Freida McFadden

Review : The Housemaid - Book #1 The Housemaid Series - Freida McFadden - April 2022

Previously, I had read a few of Freida's standalone books which I have enjoyed and I had the first two of this series on my bookshelf. This is one of her books that has been very popular and at first I was a tad nervous to pick it up as I wasn't sure what my reaction would be as the last one of this author's I tried The Co-worker ended up being a DNF.  The Housemaid starts with a young woman fresh out of prison and she applies for a job as a live-in maid for a wealthy family. At first appearances, this job looks too good to be true and soon Millie will understand as when she turns up on the first day, the house is a pig sty, and Nina - doesn't look anything like the woman that interviewed her. This looks like Nina's unhinged crazy twin sister. As the book goes along, Millie almost quits a few times as she not only discovers that Nina Winchester has a Dr Jekyll /Mr Hyde personality but their daughter also is a little liar and hates Millie. The husband on the other hand, though seems sad is Mr. Perfect in Millie's eyes - Andrew Winchester. The thing though is that this family has a dark secret and unfortunately Enzo the Gardener hasn't done his best to warn off Millie. You see the perfect family isn't exactly perfect on the inside as Millie starts to get close to Andrew which forces Nina to leave. I shall leave the review here as Part #2 of the story is a twist that makes this book all worth the while reading and also sets up the premises for the rest of the series as though the Winchesters had their problems, they underestimated what type of things Millie will do in the face of danger. I am now looking forward to reading Book #2 The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden.
