Review: The Astrology House - Carinn Jade - July 2024

When Serena aka Rini was younger, her absent dad died and left her this old Victorian House. She decided to try her hand at renting it out as a BnB but didn't get a lot of bookings. Not till she decided to put use to her astrology skills which she had been learning since she was 14 years old. With these skills, she created an Astrology-based retreat and the numbers soared as she became popular. This weekend a group of four couples have booked in for a fun weekend of couple compatibility and readings. This weekend though will turn into a secret-filled weekend as each of the couples is hiding dark secrets. We have Margot and Ted, Margot is trying for a child and Ted has a dark secret that happened ten years ago involving a pregnancy. Adam and Aimee, Adam is having an affair with a woman in a scarlet dress and Aimee is trying to keep her husband from leaving her. This also isn't the first time Adam has been caught cheating on his wife- again the first time happened ten years ago. Farrah and Joe - Farrah got close to Aimee after helping her give birth, but now Farrah is starting to feel more than friendship for her friend yet her husband Joe is in politics, so it's all about image and perceptions. Rick and Eden have an open marriage and have rules but now both of them for different reasons are willing to break them. The host Serena aka Rini, has a dark secret as well and she has orchestrated this weekend for her revenge as she has learned from a fellow psychic that she will die in two days.  The Astrology House was a great read and reminded me of books like The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley and The Writers Retreat by Julia Bartz. The age-old formulaic writing of a revenge-filled plot aims to reveal the character's true natures one by one, until disaster strikes which often results in mayhem and murder.

  Review: Punk 57 - Penelope Douglas - October 2016 As soon as I read Bully by Penelope Douglas, I was in love with this author. So when she released a new one who had my favorite theme of penpals and that whole friend to lovers going on, I knew I had to read it. The book started out with a bit of background where we learned about how Misha and Ryen were placed together in a classroom project penpal program. The pair continues to write to each other right through the year, and then they take it to the next level and continue through the rest of their schooling.
