The Teddy Bear Eye Club

Review: The Teddy Bear Eye Club - Suzanne M Hurley - June 2015

Have you seen the TV show "The Red Band Society" ? That is exactly what The Teddy Bear Eye club reminded me of as we have a group of outsiders, misfits that don't seem to fit with anybody any particular except funnily enough with each other and each of them has something that they are going through in life and they feel that they don't have anyone they can talk to or hang out with. Pre-warning readers, though this book is a tween book , it was a sad and an emotional read and I don't normally cry in books but The Teddy Bear Eye Club in parts left me with tear tracks down my face. We have Mayah who is one of the main characters whom is depressed and finds out she is adopted, she feels though that her parents have lied to her and is really struggling with coming to terms with her adoption and past and has thoughts about whether she can ever move on from what she has just discovered. Celeste who is another of the major characters and the founding member and strong force behind The Teddy Bear Eye Club - she has cancer , Kitty - the one with the A+ grades - the miss "Perfect" who is being molded into becoming the best - but what will happen when she starts to crack under pressure ? Freddy - an athlete and good student whom everyone views as stuck-up but what Freddy views as rejection and unable to fit in though he tries and Danni who is going through the self-esteem issues of her weight . This group of high school students form their group and will go through the year with highs and lows, but what will happen when Celeste stops coming and the group starts to crumble ?  Can they still stay strong together or was Celeste the glue holding them together ?
For an emotional tween and clean teen ride , that you will have to read while having a box of tissues sitting next to you, Check out "The Teddy Bear Eye Club" by Suzanne M. Hurley today.
