A Long, Long Sleep

Review: A Long,Long Sleep - Anna Sheehan - August 9th 2011

Are you a fan of Sleeping Beauty , the wonderful fairy-tale where Beauty pricks her finger and ends up asleep for hundreds of years , and be awoken by a kiss by her Prince Charming ? What about Science-Fiction and the living of a dystopian world ?
A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan is Sleeping Beauty in the future. The story starts with the awakening of Rosalind Fitzroy , who has been asleep for sixty-two years in what is called a stassi. It is like a coffin that prevents aging and when you enter it , it is like entering a deep sleep. When she was little, her parents use it as a punishment tool and one day , she retracted to it and they forgot all about her. Until sixty-two years later when Bren - a 16yr old boy was playing around in the basement and found her in the stassi and awakened her with a kiss. Soon Rose is chucked into a world where alot has happened in sixty-two years and when she should be in her hundreds , she is still only 16years old.
What has become of her only love Xavier and why does her new friend Bren resemble and remind her of him and now not that  Rose doesn't have alot on her plate , she is being chased by a Plasticine who was hired to assasinate her ?
A story that mixes Fairy-tales , Dystopia and Science Fiction with a hint of Romance into one awesome novel that you won't be able to put down.

  1. Great review! I have a copy of this on NetGalley but haven't read it yet because I don't really like reading on the computer :/ However, I think you might have convinced me to give in to it. Talk about peer pressure :P A Long, Long Sleep sounds awesome! If anything, your last line completely sold me.

  2. I've just finished reading this and I did enjoy it, a bit different than what I have been reading of late.
