Review: Bound to Happen - Jonathon Shannon - August 2023

This book caught my attention with the whole idea of missed connections and soulmates and then the geeky storyline of our main characters. But wowza this was such an amazing read and if you ever had any doubts that guys cannot write romance, then you need to stop what you are doing and read Bound to Happen as this is a testament to guys being able to write romantic love stories but not soppy ones. This hit all the right spots for me, especially in the fact that it is a slow-burn romance right up to the very last page normally I cannot stand slow-burn romances as they seem to drag on and on but this one just worked perfectly and it needed to be a slow burn for the story to play out. The book starts with Sophie who is a astrophysicist like Raj from the Big Bang Theory and dreams of working for NASA as she's all about space and string theory. Her thesis is about space debris. Sophie has dedicated her life to academics and never had time for a boyfriend but now here she is about to start her Ph.D. and still no relationship. Tom - our male character is a budding musician and dating Poppy who is an upcoming Pop Star. One day, Tom has a thought about space and music and how physics could help him write an amazing song about love. He starts emailing Sophie aka SC and the two start an amazing You've Got Mail Email chain. We read throughout the book the various missed connections this pair has, as they are always just out of reach from one another yet the reader knows they are the perfect soulmates for one another. Will Tom and Sophie finally get their #meetcute moment with one another or will they forever be missing one another and just live with the memories of their emails? Find out in this amazing #meetcute romance which mixes science, music, and love to create the perfect bookish (weed) concoction known as Bound to Happen by Jonathon Shannon.
