Review: Disclaimer - Renee Knight
Review: Disclaimer - Renee Knight - April 2015
Are you a fan of psychological thrillers ? Have you ever seen that movie with Jim Carrey - "Number 23" ? The one where he is browsing through a bookshop and comes across a book called Number 23 and as he starts reading it , the book starts to mirror his life ? When I started reading Disclaimer, that is what kept flashing back into my mind - the movie. Disclaimer starts with a retired teacher who is busy clearing out his wife's apartment when he comes across a manuscript she was writing called "The Perfect Stranger". He decides to finish the story and publish it. Then two years later , the book finds it's way into the hands of Catherine Ravenscroft and she begins to read the book - but the thing is that when she starts reading it , the secret of what happened twenty years ago when her son was younger is starting to flood back and jump off the pages of the book. How can someone else know her secret ? Is someone missing with her and have they published her secret in the book or is she going crazy ? As the story goes along , we learn more about Catherine's secret and the knowledge of the book being out there starts to rip apart her family even more so when those closest to her start to imagine the secret and what happened - even though they are far from the truth about what really happened that night when she was on holiday.
If you love thrillers and mysteries then Disclaimer is the book for you, it does however begin a tad slow but it is one of those books where you have to persevere as it does get better and draws you in and will have you reading it all night long as you won't be able to put it down as you have to know what happens and what really happened.
Readers, once you have finished this book - I advise you to head to the local DVD shop and check out Number 23 starring Jim Carrey.
