Review: Lie to Me - Jess Ryder

When Meredith was young about four years old, her mother Becca disappeared from her life. Now years later, Meredith's father has just sold their house, and she is busy cleaning out the attic and comes across a box of her baby clothes. In the box, is an old video cassette titled Meredith - July 1990 written in her mother's writing. Meredith curious asks her father about the tape thinking it is a home video and is stonewalled by her father.  Meredith has the video converted to DVD as we no longer live in a world of VCR's and is shocked to see the content on the tape.  Meredith and Becca are talking about a murder that has occurred.  Meredith takes the video to her ex who works as a Detective and soon discovers that the murder on the tape happened over thirty years ago before Meredith was even born.  The book then jumps back to the year 1984 where we meet Cara and her best friend, Isobel. The pair is actresses and has dreams to start their co-operative theatre company. During this time , Cara meets Christopher Jay aka Jay and the pair start dating secretly. Then Cara is killed and the case falls apart during the trial. In 1984 - Cara's murder case is still opened, the main suspect Jay was acquitted and the witness Becca vanished never to be seen again. What happened all those years ago and what does it have to do with Meredith and her mother Becca ? I enjoyed Lie to Me and had suspicions of what had happened throughout the novel , the only thing I didn't like was the epilogue as I love reunions and hoped for a better ending. Besides that , if you are in the mood for a murder mystery then check out Lie to Me by Jess Ryder coming out in April 2017.
