Where Birds Fly: The Sculptor (The New York Artists Series...After Dark, #1)

Review: Where Birds Fly : The Sculptor - Book #1 The New York Artists -After Dark - Cathrine Goldstein - October 2020

I had read a few books by this author in the past and enjoyed her writing. So when I saw she had one come up on tour, I knew I had to read it. Also, I was tempted due to the Artists' side as I love books that contain Art, etc. In Where Birds Fly, we first meet our main characters O and Cray at an Art Show that is showing Cray aka Douglas Craven's work.  O is only 12 years old but from that first meeting of Cray, she had a childhood crush on the artist and as she got older - the crush remained and she couldn't wait for her 18th birthday when finally she could legally give herself to him as she would no longer be underage. However, her dreams and reality are further apart than she realizes as Cray has changed and he now has a son who has arrived that happens to be O's age. We also read how Cray begins to play up as he is jealous between his son Peter and O's friendship.  This book is filled with a lot of angst and shows the stereotype of moody artists. I have to admit I wasn't keen on the main characters and found it hard to connect to them as we have O who acts like a spoilt brat and blames her life on her parents especially her dad and then Cray who acts like the moody artist and that he is a god in the art world and doesn't have a care how he treats those around him. My favorite characters happened to be O's sister Janet and Joe as you could feel their pain in wanting to become parents and you could read the love pouring from them as it spilled through the pages of this book. Where Birds Fly - The Sculptor is a good read if you are in the mood for an older man/younger woman relationship.
