Review: Then You Were Gone - Lauren Strasnick

Review: Then You Were Gone- Lauren Strasnick - January 2013

Looking for a novel that holds an edge to it ? Are you fascinated by edgy teen novels with friends that disappear and the stories behind why, makes you wonder what type of town they lived in or what was really going on ?
Then You Were Gone is a teen psychological novel which takes us into the world of two girls Dakota Webb and Adrienne. Growing up these girls were the best of friends and nothing could tear them apart, though as the years passed as they got older. They were into different things and eventually went their separate ways. Dakota Webb became famous and head of the rumour mill with her band and Adrienne blended into the crowd with a group of new friends. Two years pass and Adrienne out of the blue receives a phone call from Dakota needing help. Adrienne not picking up has the message go to voicemail. Later she listens to the message and calls her back four days later. By then it's too late - Dakota is missing and their are rumours circulating that she has committed suicide . Has Dakota killed herself or is she in trouble ? Can Adrienne find out what happened to Dakota and doing so will it make her re-evaluate her life and what she believes in truly ?
Then You Were Gone is a quick novel , that once you get sucked into it - it does finish quickly which annoyed me in a way as I would have preferred the ending to go down differently and maybe have a more rounded ending or followed through into a little bit more depth about Dakota and her disappearance.
However if you are a fan of Jay Asher's Thirteen Reasons Why and John Green's The Fault in our Stars  , then you will enjoy this book.
