Review: Secrets So Deep - Ginny Myers Sain - September 2022

This particular book I wasn't sure what it was actually about, but the cover and the title drew me in. So I got it out on the Libby library app to give a read and it surprised me with its twists and turns. The book is set in a small beach town called Whisper Beach where it is rumored that the ghosts of the ocean whisper to those alive to come into the water and when they do, they are sucked down to the bottom never to return or if they do return - they are dead from drowning. Years ago Avril's mother drowned at this very beach and she almost did but was saved before her time was up. Looking through her mother's things she finds an old photo of her mother Nicole with now famous playwright Willa. Willa runs a summer theatre camp at Whisper Beach and Avril has gotten in as she inherited her mother's acting skills. Avril is determined to not only learn more about her mother but what happened that fateful night and summer leading up to the events. Will she like what she discovers when she learns her mother's death is still talked about in Whisper Beach and that those in Willa's circle are holding the dark truth close to their hearts as it would ruin them if the truth ever got out? Will Avril suffer the same fate as her mum and not return home from Whisper Beach? Find out in this edgy YA theatre thriller "Secrets So Deep" by Ginny Myers Sain.
