Review: True - Erin McCarthy

True (True Believers, #1)

Review: True - Book #1 True Believers Series - Erin McCarthy - May 2013

As I make my way through the year, I made a vow to myself that I would try and catch up on old titles that I have had sitting on my Kindle/Ipad for a while.  I have been about 60/40. One of the older titles was True by Erin McCarthy which is first in the True Believers series. Previously, I had only read Book #3 in this series.  In True, we met Rory Macintosh who is your maths and science type girl - the logical and literal female. Due to overcrowding at the University, Rory ended up rooming with best friends Kylie and Jessica - these two are party types, and they welcomed Rory into their little group. At one of the parties, a mutual friend tries to take advantage of Rory which leads her to reveal to her friends that she is a 22-year-old Virgin. In their group of friends is Tyler Mann. He comes across as your typical bad boy and the type that Kylie and Jessica believe Rory needs to lose her virginity especially since he has never really been the relationship type of guy. That is though until he meets Rory. As you can guess what is going to happen, we readers discover that of course there is more than meets the eye with Tyler and I did love the fact that Erin made him a reader - I have to admit this made me swoon. I also loved the fact that Tyler loved his family and his brothers. The other part that I loved with True was though we all knew that Rory and Tyler were destined to be together at the end of the book for an HEA. I loved how for a change the author didn't make them get hitched at the end of the novel as I have read so many New Adult books and yes, the majority of them end up in the main two characters getting married and living happily ever after. It was really refreshing to read a book where the characters may love each other and don't feel the need to rush into marriage as in today's world often couples who might have been together for years don't get married, but it doesn't make them love each other any less . If you are looking for a good New Adult series to read where Opposites can attract and there is more than meets the eye with the characters. Then check out "True" by Erin McCarthy today.
