 Bunster, an Easter Story

Review: Bunster - An Easter Story - Christine Hwang Panzer - March 2021

I was in two minds about Bunster as it looked adorable and sounded cute. This book is aimed at the younger audience as it comes normally in a board book format which is babies/toddlers that 0-4 years range. We have our Bunny aka Bunster who is going on an Easter Egg hunt and has been collecting the eggs around the farm. The eggs hatch at the end and turn into cute little ducklings. As with most board books, the story is very simple and a quick 30 second to 1 minute read. The reason I was in two minds was that it didn't have an Eastery feel to me and felt more like a Beatrix Potter-style farm tale and could have been read at any time as the Easter theme wasn't very strong. The other thing that put me off the book and I wouldn't have in my previous job as someone who ran preschool and toddler time visits used the book was the font. Like her name on the front cover, this book is written in a fancy script which makes it hard for the reader to read and concentrate and it isn't normally a font I would pair with a babies/children's book. It is more wedding/birthday invitation or elegant party font, not a book font. Overall, this is a cute animal story with the bunnies/ducks and little ones will enjoy just the fact that they are being read too.
