Nevermore - Kelly Creagh

Today's book falls both in the category as a Supernatural fiction as well as a Historical fiction as it talks about Authors of the past.

                                                           Nevermore

                               Review : Nevermore - Kelly Creagh - August 2010

"And now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night. And one by one dropped the revellers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in the despairing posture of his fall. And the life of the ebony clock went out with that of the last of the gay. And the flames of the tripods expired. And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all." - The Masque of Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe.

Nevermore by Kelly Creagh, has that since of Supernatural too it but this is not your usual current teen phenomenon Supernatural. This book contains NO Vampires and NO Werewolves and NO Zombies or Unicorns.Nevermore takes us into the lives of Varen Nethers and Isobel who have been paired up for an English assignment - these two are opposites and at each end of the social status table with Varen - a Goth Loner and Isobel - A Cheerleader with a Jock Boyfriend. The assignment is to pick a dead author and write a ten page report. The author these two choose is Edgar Allan Poe and soon we start to see odd things happen as Isobel's life starts imitating what happened to Edgar in those last few days leading up to his death. Kelly has incorporated famous Edgar Allan Poe characters Reynolds and Pinfeathers and throughout the story has included pieces of prose that Edgar Allan Poe was famous for.
This supernatural /historical novel is one that all fans of both genres will enjoy and if you love the author Edgar Allan Poe with all his darkness, then this is one book that you definitely have to add to your TBR List and readers do not be dismayed by its thickness as once you start reading, you are hooked. Nevermore not only focuses on the Supernatural but also on the modern issues of relationships with siblings , love triangles, team mates and of course Jealous boyfriends.
