The Dragon with the Girl Tattoo - Adam Roberts

Today's book is one that pokes fun at the cult following "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy written by Steig Larsen.  I have used my little Fantasy symbol as the main characters in this book are Dragons.

Review : The Dragon with the Girl Tattoo - Adam Roberts - December 2010

Lizbreath Salamander is young and beautiful. Her scales have an iridescent sheen, her wings arch proudly, her breath has a tang of sulfur. And on her back a tattoo of a mythical creature: a girl. But when Lizbreath is drawn into a dark conspiracy she will have to rely on more than her beauty and her vicious claws the size of sabres ...A dragon has disappeared, one of a secretive clan. As Lizbreath delves deeper into their history she realises that these dragons will do anything to defend their secrets. Welcome to the world of The Dragon With The Girl Tattoo. A world of gloomy Nordic dragons leading lives uncannily like our own (despite their size, despite the need for extensive fireproofing of home furnishings), a world of money hoarded, a world of darkness and corruption. A world where people are the fantasy.

The Dragon with the Girl Tattoo is a parody take on the infamous series that has swept the world by storm with the three books and just like that in no time - the three movies . As a reader and a librarian, I saw the popularity of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I tried to read it but I just couldn't get into it at all, so when I saw this parody version- thanks to Orion Books, Hachette I jumped at the chance to read and review it and It was amazingly well written and unlike the original take I was able to get hooked into this book straight away and not put it down till the finish. I hope the author Adam Roberts continues with Books #2 and #3 and we might soon be seeing The Dragon who Breathed Fire and The Dragon that Kicked the Hornet's Nest. The cover of this book was also created to resemble the original cover of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with the back of the dragon and a little white girl tattoo on his left shoulder blade.

This book is a must read for fans of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo who wants more of the same to read but in a lighter format or for those who hated The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo who wants a good ol' breathing fire chuckle.

  1. Okay, the title was cute enough to catch my attention, but Lizbreath Salamander made me laugh out loud. I think I may have to pick this one up. :)
