Hex Hall - Rachel Hawkins
Ever wondered what it would be like to be a witch , do you remember the ol' TV Show Sabrina the Teenage Witch with her warlock turned cat Salem - All the trouble she got into for doing her spells ? With the rise of Supernatural genres in books , it's not uncommon that most people are currently reading novels that have some kind of supernatural reference. For me I find it fun and fascinating , I love things that are outta this world.
Review : Hex Hall - Rachel Hawkins - 2010 ( Book One)
"My Mother says I must not pass too near to the glass; she is afraid that I will see A little witch that looks like me; With a red mouth to whisper low , The very thing I should not know" - Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt.
For Sophie Mercer ,being a witch isn't all fun and games . She doesn't get to ride a broomstick or have a talking cat like Sabrina and unfortunatley for Sophie her spells tend to get her into a huge bunch of trouble from students breaking their bones to trying to get out of a test which left her teacher with memory-loss . The spells also have a habit of getting her kicked out of schools . The book starts off at her 19th and counting school on their Senior Prom Night. Sophie hears sobbing , uncontrollable sobbing and discovers Felicia - eager to help , she conjours up a date spell which like all her previous spells turns out terribly wrong. Summoned to the council -the big-wigs of the witch/warlock world .Sophie is sentenced to schooling at Hectare Hall aka Hex Hall (the school reminded me of the English TV Show ""Hex").
The Brochure reads "The purpose of Hectare Hall is to protect and instruct shapeshifter, witch and fae children who have risked exposure of their abilities, and therefore imperiled Prodigium society as a whole".
Hex Hall is like Hogwarts for the supernatural as Sophie is landed in class with fae , shapeshifters , the odd vampire, witches and warlocks. This book has clever literature references including the famous Lord Byron as a Vampire ( read Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford) teaching English and of course suited to all teens relating to your everyday school situations.
As the book progresses , we read as Sophie finds herself and the Progidium in danger as a secret society has come out of the woodwork to destroy all supernaturals especially her .
