Review: Deviant King - Rina Kent
Review: Deviant King - Book #1 Royal Elite Series - Rina Kent - October 2019
With being on Quarantine as
New Zealand went into Level 3 today, I have been trying to make a dent in my
TBR Pile. This particular bullymance series, my friend has been telling me to
read for a while now and it was an intense read and filled with a lot of angst.
When Elsa was seven her parents died and she came to live with her Aunt and
Uncle, she had to have surgery and all her memories of before her surgery have
disappeared. All that remains are nightmares and snippets. Now she is ready for
high school and starting at the Royal Elite where her guardians were alumni. She
plans to go through her years here and then off to Cambridge University. On her
first day though she befriends Kimberley and soon the two of them are the
targets of bullying from the "Kings". The bullying from these guys almost
borders on sexual harassment. This continues right on till their senior year
when this year, they plan to make it "their year". However, things
are about to get pretty intense for Elsa aka Frozen and Kim as they are thrust
into the world of the "Kings". Kim has captured the attention of
Xander and Elsa - Adrian ( the leader of the Kings). We catch glimpses where
maybe Adrian was connected to Elsa somehow before her memory was wiped, but how
can they when she has never lived here before? The latter part of the book has
a love/hate flirting going on between Adrian and Elsa where he plays a sadistic
jerk and she plays the "I hate you but I want your game". The book
ends in a cliffhanger that reveals possible reasoning on why Adrian has it in
for Elsa, which makes me want to find out more and I hope he changes his mind.
The ending of this book reminded me a bit of Lisa Helen Gray's series The Wrong
Crowd and their reasoning for bullying her. Deviant King was an intense read
and one of the better bullymances. I am now looking forward to reading the next
books in this series.
