VBT# Review: Beef Cake - Jiffy Kate

Beef Cake (Donner Bakery, #4)

Review: Beef Cake - Book #4 Donner Bakery - Jiffy Kate - March 2020

When I saw the new wave of Smartypants Romance books being released, I was so excited and couldn't wait to read them, in the hopes of being reunited with familiar characters from other stories. In Beef Cake we meet Frankie Reeves who is an ER Nurse and looks after her mother who is an agoraphobic and Gunnar Erickson who is an MMA fighter and moved to Green Valley to train with his brother Cage whose partner is Tempest - we had their story in Stud Muffin. Frankie's hope is to one day find her father and in turn, possibly find the truth out about her scars and nightmares as she doesn't remember much of her life before she was seven and they moved to the women's shelter. Gunnar's whole life has been about becoming the best MMA fighter he can be and taking the world by storm. Gunnar meets Frankie in the ER and though there is attraction, it is shortlived when she finds out what he does for a living. Can Gunnar prove to Frankie he only fights in the ring and is nothing like her father? Without giving away spoilers, I have to admit my favorite part of Beef Cake was when the identity of Frankie's father was revealed as it brought back memories of past books and characters read.  I am now looking forward to exploring the other new wave of Smartypants Romance and seeing what journey they will take us on and where they will lead too.
