Romeo and Juliet - Zombie Style
With the uprise of classic renditions mixed with the Paranormal and Supernatural , Its not a surprise that even William Shakespeare is not safe with "Shakespeare Undead" by Lori Handleland and now with today's book by Isaac Marion staring the creatures Zombies.
Review : Warm Bodies - Isaac Marion - December 2010
O'Romeo , Romeo , Where Art thou Romeo ? Here I am Juliet as a Zombie. Nobody is safe as we have discovered with Jane Austen's books being made into Supernatural and Paranormal renditions and now we are witnessing the takeover of William Shakespeares with his famous and worldwide known title of Romeo and Juliet. When I first requested this book, I was in two minds about it as when it comes to the world of supernatural and paranormal creatures , Im not really a Zombie person. Though in saying that it looks like Zombies, though they still have similar qualities of those in years gone by, Zombies are slowly becoming equals to the modern day Vampires with books like Generation Dead Series by Dan Waters and I Kissed a Zombie and I Liked It by Adam Selzer and Never Slow Dance with a Zombie by E. Lowe ( which I have a review coming up).
Now back to Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion , Meet "R" , he is a zombie and is exactly like the other zombies around but when "R" meets human girl "Julie" , for them both it is love at first sight and we are then thrown into a world instead of the Montagues and Capulets , the world of Zombies and Humans as these two start to grow a strangely tense but tender relationship which soon blossoms overnight. Julie has brought life to "R" , something he as a Zombie has not felt in such a long time. Can these two overcome their differences and push aside everybody's else thoughts and discover that no matter what , as long as their love for each other remains steadfast and strong that they can defy all logic and law and be together for eternity.
If you never thought that you could ever see a Zombie as a romance character and somebody that you could fall in love as they don't exactly give off the same vibes and sexual appeal that Werewolves and Vampires do, once you read "Warm Bodies" , you will be like Zombies are the new Vampires. Though in saying that if William Shakespeare wasn't your scene and you want something lighter that will leave you feeling the same , try I Kissed a Zombie and I Liked it by Adam Selzer, however don't give up hope till you have started reading Warm Bodies as like it did myself, it may surprise you all.
