Review : Tarrant - Stephen Garside - March 2010
I'm not normally one whose keen on reading Short Stories , as most of the time they irritate me .However every now and again A Short story author will come along and write an excellent short story. One that will keep your mind entertained , the reader "that's you and me" wanting to find out more.
If you like mysteries and cop stories, then Tarrant is for you. Tarrant is a very English name so it makes sense that this short story is set in the UK as you will read the slang and surroundings of the story.
Whenever I hear the word Tarrant , it always reminds me of Chris Tarrant from the UK hit show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire".
The Year is 1994 and the story starts with a nice day out at the beach as a family . George, his wife Rose and their daughter Jessica . What started as a wonderful family outing however turns into a nightmare, one that Rose and George will never forget. Their daughter Jessica is kidnapped and the van driving away was the last they ever saw of her .
Fast forward Fifteen years , they say that losing a child is a prime reason for many marriages ending up in the big D word Divorce. Rose and George have gone their separate ways and George is still busy in the police force despite his rogue and neanderthal ways at capturing prisoners. On the night of their fifteenth anniversary without their daughter , the kidnapper has come out of hiding and sooner or later George and Rose must fight for their lives as they soon find themselves due to false hope in deadly danger.
When a girl turns up , there's a slight chance she is their long-lost daughter , Has George and Rose finally got their precious daughter Jessica back or is someone playing them for fools and using the girl as bait for a much bigger game than they both realise ?.
