ARC Tour : XVI - Julia Karr
Today's book review is part of the ARC Tours on International Book Tour and today's book is one that felt like it took forever to arrive and we thought that we may never see it again.
Review: XVI - Julia Karr - January 2011
Set in the future , in Nina's world - girls when they reach sixteen it should be called sex-teen as that is when they are forced to lose their innocence and purity. When the girls turn sixteen , they each receive a tattoo on their wrists "XVI". This indicates that the girl has turned sixteen and so to speak becomes ripe for the picking. The girls are then enrolled in a government programme called the FeLS - an organisation that enrols girls and virgins when they reach sixteen - the only way to ensure that you don't have to go is to buy out your contract. That is what Nina's mum Ginnie has done as she doesn't want her daughters to go through this horrible nature and time. When Nina's mum is killed , Nina believes that their is truth behind the stuff and theories that her mother has been spouting all these years. A novel where soon we discover that if you stand up against the society - your life has an expiry date and with each day passing it gets closer and closer. Though is putting a death notice on your life and disobeying society's rules alot more safer than going along with them as more tragedy spurs when Nina's friend Sandy enrols in the FeLs.
Find out more in a society novel which is along the lines of Delirium , Matched, The Blood of the Lamb Trilogy , Witch and Wizard and 1984.
Remember Big Brother is always watching.
This one sounds pretty crazy, but interesting. I'll probably check it out sometime in the future.
