Simon's Choice

Review: Simon's Choice - Charlotte Castle - July 2010

Have you read or seen the film "My Sister's Keeper" ? Where the eldest daughter contracts Leukemia and the conseqences and effects of what happens to the family due the diagnosis.
In Simon's Choice , it reminded me alot of that as Dr. Simon Bailey daughter Sarah was diagnosed with leukemia when she was five years old and the family -Simon and his wife Melissa have been worried about what the future may hold. It seems that she has her up days and her down days. After the hope that she is well, they encounter that she has been sick again and ends up collapsing at school. Simon worried that he didn't spot anything wrong and his wife Melissa blaming herself starts to send a rift between them , just in the time they need each other the most. When Sarah asks a question about what heaven is like and who will be there for her , it strikes a match in Simon's brain and soon we see Simon setting out to discover what heaven is like and we read as Simon is tossed between the idea of giving up his life to be with his little girl in Heaven or remaining on earth with his wife , whom he knows will need his support during this hard time .
What decision or choice will Simon choose ?
Simon's Choice is a novel that will test the boundaries and love that any parent has for their children and the limits they will go or think in order whether it be life or death , to make them happy and feel safe and secure. A novel that if you are one to cry in books, keep a packet of tissues next to you as when I was reading my eyes started to tear.

  1. Simon's Choice does sound quite a bit like My Sister's Keeper but with a different plot twist. It's a tear jerker for sure! Beautiful site!
