Review: The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus- Sonya Sones - April 2011
A novel written in entirely verse , The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus takes us on a journey of Holly's struggles from the fact she is turning fifty to her baby daughter heading off to college . Holly is an author that is being pressured to finish her book by her editor who as Holly quotes acts like she is barely twelve . We read as Holly discovers that she is going through Menopause and her doctor telling her she no longer has to wear a diaphragm to her cousin Alice coming over for a "I've got a broken heart" cry which ends up with Holly and Alice going all out , rights for women but instead of burning their bras , they end up burning Holly's diaphragms. If feeling like fifty wasn't enough for Holly, her mother who is nearing eighty is fit as a fiddle raking leaves and jumping in them. The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus is the perfect companion guide to all Women who are entering those stages of A) menopause and/or B) that feeling of Empty Nest syndrome when their children flee the nests to go off to college.
The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus is author Sonya Sones first attempt at writing a book for adults and she actually didn't intend on writing it , it just happened and started flowing.
